You want to know how serious sin is. Ask God and listen to His answer.
Verses 1 to 11. Sodom’ depravity
The inhabitants were struck with blindness.
Verses 12 to 29 Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed.
Interesting to note:
Sodom = Place of lime. Genesis 19:22.
Gomorah = means = fissure. Genesis 19:22.
Admah = means = earthwork = fortress. Genesis 10:19.
Zeboim = wild place. Genesis 10:19.
Zoar – Bela – means little or insignificant. Genesis 19:22.
We read in V14 Lot’s attempt to speak to his sons-in-laws – They laugh at him.
In V15 the angels urged Lot to hurry
In V16 But Lot ‘lingered’ ‘hesitated’ he did not see the urgency of the situation.
In V17 / three (3) clear, striking but urgent instructions given.
In V19, 20 Lot’s requests (fleshly desires again) Read Genesis 19:30. After all that Lot did not stay in Zoar. (for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar).
In V22 The most amazing answer ‘Hurry. . .
In V24 we read the complete destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
In V26 Lot’s wife turned into a pillar of salt,
she DID NOT follow the clear instructions given.
Do you still wonder on what God thinks of sin – you have your answer.
With that information we should have a clearer understanding of why The Lord Jesus Christ mentioned Lot’s wife.
What has happened to Lot’s wife should be a spiritual shake up, a deep searching of where our values are placed – on the material things, if yes, then we should read 2 Peter 3:10-11. (everything is going to burn up,)
So, it is a sobering lesson for us as well.
